FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: method for strengthening of hard-alloy and diamond tools implies thermal treatment by cold and namely by immersing tools in liquid nitrogen. After treatment by cold, tools are subjected to radiation treatment by gamma-ray photons. Tools treated in aforesaid method reveal stable high drilling productivity per bit and high mechanical drilling velocity in various kinds of rock. EFFECT: high efficiency. 2 tbl
