FIELD: chemical technology of inorganic substances. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of potassium sulfate that is used as chlorine-free potassium fertilizer. Method involves repulpation of potash with water or an aqueous-saline solution. Potash conversion is carried with sulfuric acid for two stages providing pH value of suspension at the first stage at the level 9-10.5 and at the second stage - 6-8.5. Potassium sulfate is crystallized from an aqueous-saline solution and ready product is dried by water removal from reaction mass. Carrying out the conversion for two stages ensures to improve quality of the end product, i. e. decrease its alkalinity and level of insoluble residue and intensify the process by 2-3-fold. When concentrated sulfuric acid is used (90-95% H2SO4) then preliminary mixing reagent is carry out advisably for 2-4 min to prevent intense foam formation followed by adjusting mass pH to required value for 10-15 min.
