FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: described is method of preparing 1,3-alkanediols and 3- hydroxyaldehydes by hydroformylation of oxirane with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of catalyst based on cobalt and promoter which is lipophilic tetrasubstituted salt of V group element selected from nitrogen, phosphorus and arsenic.
