FIELD: metallurgy, particularly, production of high-chromium steels in unit of argon-oxygen refining. SUBSTANCE: iron-chromium melt is decarbonized in argon-oxygen refining unit by oxygen blowing with oxygen-gas mixture ratio varying in the course of blowing from 6:1 to 1:6. Oxygen blowing is effected continuously within interval of concentration of carbon in metal of (0.40-0.35)-0.01%, smoothly varying oxygen-gas content ratio to 1:6 which may be determined by relationship given in the invention description.
