FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy, production of lead, particularly, processing of lead middlings. SUBSTANCE: method includes addition to initial material including copper-containing lead coke or dust of iron oxide up to iron-zinc ratio of 1.1-1.2: 1; determination in mixture of weight content of carbon and lead-copper weight ratio; calculation of required content of carbon in mixture (in dry state) by formula given in the invention description. Initial content of carbon in mixture is compared with calculated value, and if calculated values exceeds the initial value, added to mixture is carbon up to calculated value. If initial value of carbon content exceeds the calculated value, mixture is additionally subjected to heat treatment at temperature of 650-750 C with subsequent electric smelting of mixture to obtain black lead, matte and slag. Before tapping of the slag, introduced into melt is carbon in amount of up to 2% of mixture weight.
