FIELD: electromagnetic investigation of corrosive conditions of metal underground transmission lines, such as gas, petroleum, water and food supply pipes. SUBSTANCE: method involves measurement of azimuthal constituents of magnetic fields produced by current losses, or loss rate in beginning and end of pipe piece. Then method involves measurement of intensity of azimuthal constituents of magnetic fields produced by current losses in two points which are located in beginning and two points which are located at end of piece under investigation. Said points are spaced by identical distance from lines which are continuations of transmission radiuses. Then method involves calculation of current losses for each modulated current and total current losses. EFFECT: increased speed of detection and increased precision of measurement of current losses. 8 cl, 2 dwg
