FIELD: production of pneumatic tires. SUBSTANCE: method involves providing three wire threads; subjecting wire threads to spiral deformation by means of false twisting mechanisms; arranging wire threads in parallel one with the other so that they adjoin each other; positioning two wire threads to form core; arranging third wire thread so that it embraces core composed of two wire threads. Steel cord has wire bundle with core composed of bundle of adjoining parallel wire threads. Steel cord has at least three wire threads, with two wire threads being made spiral and adjoining one to the other to form core. At least one wire thread is twisted to form spiral member enclosing two core wire threads. Spiral deformation of wire threads is effectuated by false twisting mechanisms and is adapted for preventing wire threads from migration from cord structure and for eliminating development of residual torsional stresses between core threads and combination of such stresses and enclosing wire return forces. Steel cord is made flattened, preferably, oval-shaped. EFFECT: increased efficiency, simplified construction and manufacture method and enhanced reliability in operation. 18 cl, 6 dwg
