FIELD: electronic equipment, in particular, power supply units for electric motor cars. SUBSTANCE: device has housing, which is designed as two half- spherical jackets with flanges and contains unit of electrodes with current terminals. In addition, at least one flange contains resistance unit, which terminals are connected to respective terminals of unit of electrodes. The method for using metal-gas storage battery involves charging unit of electrodes by direct current, disconnecting direct current surface from unit of electrodes, while it is stored in charged state, its connection to load, and storage of metal-gas storage battery in discharged state. Upon usage and storage, unit of electrodes is connected to respective current terminals of resistance unit. Discharge current upon storage in charged state is within range of 1-3 % of charge current. When device is stored in discharged state, potential at current terminals of unit of electrodes is below voltage level, which is equal to (0.1-0.3)n, where n is number of electrodes in serial circuit.
