FIELD: power plants emptying compressed gases. SUBSTANCE: method includes delivery of low-pressure hydrogen to first cell at simultaneous taking high-pressure hydrogen from second cell at delivery of current to electrodes of second cell; after impregnation of first cell with hydrogen, current is fed to first cell and high-pressure hydrogen is taken from it and low- pressure hydrogen is fed to second cell; metal oxide electrode is used as metal electrode of first cell and metal hydroxide electrode is used as metal electrode of second cell; both cells are used in turn as current source. Device for realization of this method includes two metal- hydrogen cells with electrodes; each is mounted in hermetic casing and its electrodes are connected to current source through pressure-sealed connectors; device has low-pressure hydrogen source, high-pressure hydrogen receiver, valves, mains connecting the casing of cells with low-pressure hydrogen source and high-pressure receiver. It also includes charging- discharging unit, switch, contactor and automatic control unit. EFFECT: reduced power requirements; ease in maintenance; increased compression pressure. 3 cl, 1 dwg
