FIELD: industrial inorganic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: when preparing superfine modified silica manifesting biphylic properties, fine silica with specific surface 60 to 730 m/g is preliminarily hydroxylated with water vapors in presence of catalytic amounts no more than 0.1 wt.% of acid at 105-110 C for 1.5-2 h, dried to residual moisture content 0.6 wt.%, surfacially activated with alkali metal carbonates or alkali, and then chemically modified with elementorganic compound of general formula RnSiCl4-n where n= 1-3, R is methyl, ethyl, chloromethyl, or phenyl at ratio (16-100):1, respectively, and temperature 30 to 205 C. Activation and partial modification of the surface of silica is accomplished by mechanically agitating components for 30 to 120 min. Releasing gaseous reaction products are removed by blowing off with inert gas or air through alkali neutralizer. EFFECT: enabled preparation of biphylic materials with hydrophilic-lipophilic balance from to 15 exhibiting properties of solid nonionic surfactants. 4 cl, 1 dwg, 2 tbl
