FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: method includes creation of electric arc in high-temperature zone and transferring at least one initial material into high-temperature zone to form thermal plasma including fluorine- and carbon-containing particles. Molecular ratio C:F in the bulk of heated gas is controlled at specified value between 0.4 and 2.0, specific enthalpy of the bulk of heated gas is controlled at specified value between about 1 and 100 kW h/kg during period of time sufficient to form reactive thermal gas mixture containing reactive fluorine- and carbon-containing intermediates. This mixture is then cooled at such a rate and to such temperature, which lead to form final product including desired fluorine-containing compound. Initial material generally represents C1-C10-perfluorinated carbon compound of general formula CnFm, in which 0<n<10 and m=2n, 2n+2 or 2n-2 when n>1, e.g. gaseous fluorocarbon such as tetrafluoromethane. In thermal mixture, temperature of carbon-containing particles reaches 1727-2727 C. Nonconsumable electrodes are basically used. Installation has high- temperature zone to heat gas, pair of electrodes creating electric arc, and mechanism supplying initial material and forming thermal plasma in high-temperature zone. Installation is also provided with plasma burner with pair of nonconsumable electrodes and vortex generator constructed as part of at least one plasma burner.
