FIELD: transmitters controlling technological processes. SUBSTANCE: invention deals with updated approach in detection of error for transmitters based on microprocessors and incorporated in double wire circuits controlling technological processes. In particular invention presents methods useful for location of troubles and malfunctions in operation of such transmitters. While transmitter is fed condition impedance of cable of circuit of technological process is found and stored, is displayed or sent at request. Impedance in circuit is used to compute potential of power supply source employed for feed of control circuit. This information is utilized in test if double wire circuit. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of control over technological process thanks to timely detection of troubles and malfunctions in operation of transmitters. 4 cl, 1 dwg
