FIELD: oxidation catalysts. SUBSTANCE: catalyst for treatment of internal combustion engine exhaust gases and detoxification of industrial emission gases containing carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons includes manganese dioxide and lead dioxide. Distinguishing feature of catalyst is that its preparation involves anodic slime formed on lead anode during electrolytic reduction of zinc from acidic sulfate solutions containing 53.9% manganese dioxide, 15% lead dioxide, 0.06% silver oxide, and impurities. Anodic slime is preliminarily washed to remove residual electrolyte and then dried in air. EFFECT: reduced expenses with no loss in catalyst efficiency. 2 tbl, 2 ex
