FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method relates to the field of extraction of substances by electroextraction and can be used in ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, as well as for cleaning industrial and domestic wastewater. Metallic cobalt is obtained by electrical extraction from sulphate and chloride-sulphate solutions containing manganese with a concentration of 0.75 g/m3. When this metal cobalt emits on the titanium cathode and precipitated manganese in the composition of the anode sludge. Anode is made of lead with a silver content of up to 1 %. Electrical extraction is carried out in a dynamic mode at pH 1.1–1.4, current strength 0.5–1.5 A and temperature 50–60 °C in a box-type cell without separation into cathode and anode spaces. Anode is placed in a bag of dense filter fabric, which accumulates anode sludge. Original solution is fed into the bag to ensure the stability of the composition of the electrolyte in the anode space. Output of the spent electrolyte is carried out from the cathode space of the electrolyzer, with the molar ratio between the Mn2+ ion in the initial solution and the MnO4- ion in anolite Mn2+:MnO4- ≥ 3:2.
EFFECT: method allows to obtain high purity metallic cobalt.
