FIELD: mechanical engineering; gas-shielded welding of high thermal conductivity metals. SUBSTANCE: input and output processing plates with recesses are installed at part ends opposite to their butt joint. Shape of recesses follows shape of butt-joint end face. Short-time multiple arc-striking at periphery of recess is provided to rise butt-joint edge temperature to 0.4 - 0.5 of melting point of metal to be welded, for instance, silver. Then arc is moved to edges and joint is welded in argon atmosphere on copper weld backing using silver wire as filler. Process is terminated on output plate. Proposed method provides welding of high thermal conductivity metals, such as silver, without pores, surface ruptures, cracks and fusion faults. EFFECT: improved quality of welded joints. 6 cl, 4 dwg
