FIELD: petrochemical industry, more particularly purification of benzene and toluene. SUBSTANCE: described is method of purifying benzene and toluene from admixtures of nonaromatic hydrocarbons by rectification of aromatic extract using azeotrope-forming solvents. Azeotrope-forming solvent includes oxygen-containing high-octane additive to gasoline which is ether selected from group consisting of methyl-tert butyl ether, ethyl-tert butyl ether, methyl- tert-amyl ether, diisopropyl ether, or alcohol selected from group consisting of ethanol, 2-propanol, tertbutanol or mixture of said alcohols or methanol with ethers in 8- 28: 1 weight ratio to nonaromatic hydrocarbons of extract, azeotropic mixtures being distilled are added to gasoline without regeneration of solvent.
