INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE Russian patent published in 2000 - IPC

Abstract RU 2157897 C2

FIELD: transport facilities; drives of power plants. SUBSTANCE: engine has housing with cylinder and two coaxial pistons secured on rods: working piston forming working chamber together with cylinder and supercharging piston forming compressor chamber together with working piston. Supercharging piston forms bumper chamber, as well as intake, exhaust and bypass passages. Rod of working piston passes through axial bore of supercharging piston rod; one end of this rod is connected to two planetary connecting rods by means of one hinge; other hinge is used for connecting the working rod to journals of LH and RH coaxial cranks whose eccentricities "e" are equal to center-to-center distance "e" of planetary connecting rods forming rhombic stroke doubling mechanisms by means of synchronizing gear mechanism. Rod of supercharging piston is provided with two trunnions; it is articulated to crank journal by means of two connecting rods; its stroke is half stroke of working piston. Similar cylinder is provided on other side coaxially relative to first cylinder; working rod passed through it and through housing is fitted with working pistons at the ends and with central support in center; central support is articulated to two planetary connecting rods. Supercharging rod with supercharging pistons secured at its ends is made in form of frame sliding over guides and embracing the central support of working rod. Supercharging pistons of both cylinders are provided with spring-loaded circular check valves. Kinematic linkage of one crank with output shaft is effected through two- link cylindrical gearing and kinematic linkage of other crank with output shaft is effected through three-link gearing at retained gear ratio. Articulations connecting the planetary connecting rods are located on cranks diametrically opposite relative to articulations of supercharging connecting rods, thus ensuring opposite direction of motion of working and supercharging pistons. Mass of total complete assembly of working rod with working pistons is lesser than mass of total complete assembly of supercharging rod with supercharging pistons and ratio of their masses is inversely proportional to their strokes. EFFECT: enhanced economical efficiency; reduced toxic emissions; reduced mass. 1 dwg
