FIELD: separation of emulsions consisting of two immiscible liquids of different densities; separation of water and oil at depth of operation of submersible pumps. SUBSTANCE: separation is performed at depth. Separation is performed with the aid of hydrophobic and hydrophilic separation mechanisms. Oil is lifted and water is pumped downward. Method includes gravitational separation processes at motion of liquids separated beforehand vertically towards each other and then in opposite direction; fraction enriched with light components is discharge upward and fraction enriched with heavy components is discharged downward due to sinking feed pipe with longitudinal cuts in media of separation; cylindrical vessels are provided for conducting the hydrophobic and hydrophilic separation processes at successive motion from terminal bypasses to central one and from central bypass of next cylinder to its terminal bypasses. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of separation of water phase at low content of oil fraction in water in oil production. 3 cl, 2 dwg
