FIELD: separation of emulsions. SUBSTANCE: method for separation of unstable emulsions includes preliminary centrifugal separation of emulsion under treatment and introduction of emulsion into separation vessel by two flows. Introduced from atop is flow enriched with light component and introduced from below is flow enriched with heavy component. Further on, the flows move toward each other, run into each other, change their directions to opposite ones. This procedure is single or repeated many times, and flows move to outlets. The above indicated sequence of operations is accomplished in device whose intake unit is made in form of centrifugal separator which has vertical cylindrical body with tangential inlet and opened upper and lower ends. Intake unit is located in the first section of separation vessel separated by partitions. The first section is separated from the others by two partitions with overflow channel arranged between them in the middle zone. The second section is separated from the followed by one with the help of partition whose edges are located at some distance from upper edge and vessel bottom. The followed by sections are formed by alternating partitions secured to bottom and by partitions whose edges are located at some distance from vessel top and bottom.
