FIELD: purification of drinking water and process waters in various industries. SUBSTANCE: purified water is passed successively through two filtering members. Water supplied to the first filtering stage for removal of hums substances has pH 3-4, and that to the second filtering stage, for removal of iron, has pH 6.5-9. Filtering medium is used in form of hydrophobic sorption materials, preferably, with development mezo- and macrostructure. Method provides for regeneration of used sorbents. Filtering medium of the first stage is regenerated with regeneration water having pH 11.0-13.0 and that in the second stage is regenerated with regenerating waters having pH 0- 2.0, pH of purified water is regulated by passing water through electrolyzer anode chamber before the first filtering stage, and through electrolyzer cathode chamber, before the second diltering stage.
