FIELD: cleaning and decontamination of water from any sources. SUBSTANCE: method consists in passing water through mechanical filter, first sorption filter, sorption oxidizing filter, carbon- dihydraxy manganese catalyst and through second sorption filter; first sorption filter, sorption oxidizing filter and second sorption filter are made from carbon graphite fibrous materials at highly-developed surfaces of micropores; area of inner surface of pores is 100-200 sq.m/g and density of packing of first and second sorption filters is equal to 0.01 kg/l. Used as oxidizer for decontamination of water is iodine at total content in sorbent filter of 0.5-0.8 mas. %. Oxidation is performed simultaneously with heterogeneous catalysis on carbon dihydraxy manganese catalyst which consists of carbon carrier and manganese dioxide at its content in carbon carrier of 1.0-1.5 mas.%. Ratio of total content of iodine in sorption oxidizing filter and manganese dioxide (by metal) in catalyst shall be lesser than or equal to 1.0.
