FIELD: transport engineering; rail vehicles; locomotives, rail cars, track machines. SUBSTANCE: proposed wheelset has axle and wheels whose hubs are rigidly coupled with axle and are enclosed by tyres. Ring (tyre) of at least one wheel is installed on hub for rotation relative to hub. Connection of ring (tyre) to hub of this wheel is made to guaranteed interference fit chosen depending on design parameters and value of load acting on wheel and on condition that friction forces moment in indicated connection should exceed moment of forces of resistance to movement but should be less than moment of adhesion forces to provide slip between hub and ring (tyre) when negotiating curvilinear sections of track and at different angular velocity of wheels of wheelset. Hub-to-ring (tyre) contact surface is microbossed and coated with material with tribotechnical properties providing stable (equilibrium) friction coefficient within the range of 0.10-0.01. EFFECT: reduced wear of tyre and rails, increased their service life, decreased resistance to movement and cut down power consumption. 1 dwg
