FIELD: plastic materials industry. SUBSTANCE: described is method of preparing polytetrafluoroethylene by polymerization of tetrafluoroethylene in aqueous medium in the presence of radical-forming water soluble paraffin initiator having melting temperature of higher than 50 C which is liquid under polymerization conditions at temperature from 70 C to 100 C and pressure from 9 to 20 atm abs. in reactor. Paraffin used in polymerization process is separated from the resulting dispersion, melted, and melt if filtered and used in subsequent polymerization operation and its losses are made up with fresh paraffin. EFFECT: lower paraffin consumption, high quality of the resulting polymer and dispersion thereof, and high yield of emulsion polymer. 7 cl, 15 ex
