PROCEDURE FOR DIAGNOSTICS OF MAIN PIPE-LINES WITH USE OF RADIOACTIVE INDICATORS Russian patent published in 2000 - IPC

Abstract RU 2159930 C1

FIELD: nondestructive inspection and diagnostics of main gas and oil pipe-lines in process of their running. SUBSTANCE: procedure includes movement of tool-flaw detector inside pipe-line, recording of its movement and radiation of radioactive indicators. Natural nuclides contained in transported product and radioactive products of their decay collected in walls of pipe-line and in ground bordering on outer surface of pipe-line are used as radioactive indicators. Gamma radiation of above-mentioned radio nuclides is recorded, sections of surface of pipe-line with increased summary level of gamma radiation are exposed and gamma radiation of short-lived isotopes and low-energy gamma radiation of radio nuclides are isolated from summary level of gamma radiation. Nature of defect is found by comparison of level of gamma radiation of short-lived isotopes with summary level of gamma radiation or/and with level of low-energy gamma radiation across isolated section of pipe-line.
