FIELD: paper making. SUBSTANCE: invention concerns cation-active starch of amylopectin type added to initial material in paper making for retention improving agent. Cation-active starch of amylopectin type is produced from potato modified by genetic engineering for suppression of formation of starch of amylose type. It is dissolved with minimum shear-off force at temperature of 60-130 C and preferably added to initial material together with anion-active component. Starch of amylopectin type contains more than 95% of amylopectin, preferably, 98%. EFFECT: higher retention of components in initial mixture in paper making with satisfactory dewatering and high mechanical strength. 8 cl
