METHOD OF TESTING QUALITY OF WELDS OF THIN-WALLED METAL PARTS AND DEVICE FOR ITS EMBODIMENT Russian patent published in 2001 - IPC

FIELD: nondestructive test. SUBSTANCE: method and device are intended for testing the butt welds of electrostatic screens, casings, cans and vessels for liquid. Article is tested by means of eddy-current transducer consisting of two exciting and two measuring coils. Exciting coils are positioned on one side of article wall and measuring coils, on the other side. Each measuring coil is coaxial with respective exciting coil. One pair of coils, exciting and measuring ones, is positioned in weld zone and the other, beyond it. Axes of all coils are arranged in one perpendicular to weld and to transducer motion direction in process of testing. Measurement results of each zone are compared with one another. Abrupt variation of different between them testifies to presence of defect. The method enables testing of weld along its entire length including edge zone. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 2 cl, 1 dwg
