FIELD: measuring equipment. SUBSTANCE: quantity of periods of reference oscillator is measured inside the interval under measurement. The auxiliary oscillator with a frequency less than the frequency of the reference oscillator by 1/K (K - interpolation coefficient) is set to the mode of continuous oscillation with an arbitrary initial phase. Its signal is transformed in a sawtooth voltage. The space between the beginning of the interval and the leading edge of the reference oscillator pulse train is taken to be equal to the number of periods of the auxiliary oscillator, taken at the level of intersection of the beginning of interval and the front slope of the sawtooth voltage, and the time interval under measurement - to be equal to the product, whose first factor equals the number of periods of the reference oscillator plus the number of periods of the auxiliary oscillator between the beginning of interval and leading edge of the reference oscillator pulse that is first after the beginning of interval, divided by K, minus the number of periods of the auxiliary oscillator between the end of the interval and leading edge of the reference oscillator pulse after the end of the interval, and second factor equals the reference oscillator period.
