FIELD: technologies of dehydration and desalting of oil; oil refining and oil producing industries. SUBSTANCE: method includes delivery of steam to flow of oil transported via pipe line, preheating of oil followed by its settling. Oil is subjected to preheating; steam is supplied to oil flow whose motion is first converted from laminar to turbulent and then again to laminar motion; flow is transports at inclination towards settler; after settling, oil is directed for additional demulsification which consists in passing the oil flow through coalescing stack. Plant used for preparation of oil for refining includes pipe line connected with settler and provided with branch pipe for introducing steam into oil flow. Steam supply branch pipe is mounted coaxially relative to pipe line; plant is provided with mixing insert mounted in pipe line coaxially relative to branch pipe; heat exchanger mounted at pipe line inlet and emulsion separator connected in plant in succession after settler and made in form of additional settler with coalescing stack covering net section of separator; pipe line is inclined towards settler, thus ensuring motion of mechanical impurities to settler; it is provided with widening end and its outlet is directed towards wall of settler in its bottom part.
