FIELD: polymer production. SUBSTANCE: styrene is polymerized in bulk in presence of polybutadiene rubber, tert-butyl perbenzoate as polymerization initiator, and tertiary dodecylmercaptan as molecular weight regulator on a set of reactors, in which heat removal is accomplished by evaporation of part of styrene, condensation of vapors, and return of condensate into reactors, wherein temperature increases gradually and conversion of styrene is followed by distilling off unreacted reactants in vacuum chamber. According to invention, cobalt-polymerization stereoregular polybutadiene rubber is used characterized by polymerization activity 8-10%/h found by measuring polymerization rate of 8% rubber in styrene with 0.03% of tert-butyl perbenzoate, 0.08% of tertiary dodecylmercaptan, 0.08% of "Irganox", and 1.0% of medicinal vaseline oil at 110 C. Distilled off unreacted reactants from vacuum chamber are added to original solution of rubber in styrene in proportion of 2.5-3.5% to the weight of total initial mixture batch. Polystyrene thus obtained can be used as construction material.
