FIELD: preparing of paint coatings, more particularly preparation of film-forming styrene oligomers. SUBSTANCE: method comprises preparing film-forming styrene oligomer by bulic oligomerisation in the presence of sulfuric acid at temperature of 20-50 C. Process is carried out in the presence of 88% H₂SO₄ at monomer to acid ratio of 100:0.2. As soon as desired conversion of styrene is achieved, toluene is added to reaction mixture in amount of 10 vol %. Monomer is styrene-containing distillate resulting from production of polystyrene using incomplete monomer conversion method.
