FIELD: ion-exchange technology of water conditioning; conditioning of water at temporary and permanent hardness; heat-power engineering, chemical and food- processing industries. SUBSTANCE: treatment of water is effected in ion-exchange filter with slightly acidic cationite in mixed acid-salt form at total content of salt forms of 15 to 65%-mole; content of salt dorm with singly-charged cations ranges from 10 to 60 %-mole and that with doubly-charged cations ranges from 5 to 55 %-mole; regeneration is effected with spent regenerating solutions H- and OH0ions filters. EFFECT: improved quality of conditioned water due to reduction of alkalinity by 1.7 to 6 times at deep softening at simultaneous high working capacity of cationite (413 to 2782 mg-eq/cu,dm) and low specific consumption of acid (1.1 to 2.1) and alkali (0.5 to 5.3 eq/eq); low cost of process; reduced discharge of salts into surrounding medium. 2 cl, 1 ex, 2 tbl
