FIELD: technology of water treatment. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of producing softened water of low alkalinity. Method involves reagent treatment of parent water to pH 8.5-11.6 and ratio of mole concentrations of ion-equivalent ions to hardness ions in the range 1.2-1.4 followed by correction on carboxyl cationite. Method provides to decrease water alkalinity by 1.2-58 times, attain deep softening on the level 0.01 eqv/m3, not above, with simultaneous enhancement of working capacity of cationite by 1.04-3.67-fold. The use of the proposed method ensures to decrease the disposal of salts in environment due to decrease of reagents consumption for cationite regeneration, provides the enhancement of conditioned water quality due to alkalinity decrease in its deep softening at simultaneous increase of cationite working capacity. Invention can be used in heat and power engineering, chemical, food and other branches of industry.
