FIELD: agriculture, more particularly plant growing, more specifically growing vegetable and berry crops in open soil. SUBSTANCE: soil is treated by mulching with peat layer of 2-10 cm, peat being prestirred with calcium compound. As described in the invention, granular peat with granule size of 2-3 mm is used. Granular peat further comprises nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium ratios of components being as follows (wt parts): N:P:K=1:(0.31- 0.82): (1.27-2.34). Method makes it possible to take into account variation in medium acidity and to increase content of main nutrient elements when plowing mulch into soil, peat being subjected to wind erosion to less degree.
