FIELD: agriculture. SUBSTANCE: wide and long strip irrigation system has longitudinal dividing windrows, straight cavities, downpour drain, collector for discharge of drainage and rain water, and irrigator made in the from of channel with water outlets leading to strips. Water outlets are provided with overflow lips and dams. Irrigator channel has slope laying coefficient of from 1 m to 4 m and lengthwise bottom inclination of from 0.00005 to 0.00015. Water outlet lips are positioned at single level and dam ridges are positioned in single horizontal plane so as to provide for water depth in channel within the range of 0.55-0.75 m at irrigation rate of 0.3-0.6 cu.m/s. Irrigation system of such construction allows irrigated soil efficiency to be increased by 3% by using land area occupied with irrigator channel for hay mowing by means of haying equipment. Moreover, building of supporting constructions is not needed. Irrigator may be employed in regions with different soil and climatic conditions and may be used in different ameliorative systems.
