FIELD: methods and devices for treatment of gases with liquids; applicable in processes of absorption, desorption, cooling or heating of gases in direct contact with liquids, saturation of gases with vapors or vapor condensation from gas mixtures, conduction of chemical reactions, cleaning of gases from dust and aerosols, deodorization, etc. SUBSTANCE: method includes contacting of gas with liquid on surface of vertical working pipes, supply of gas to lower part of these pipes and supply of liquid to upper part of pipes. Process is carried out in three or more stages. In so doing, the first and the last stages in gas are effected under conditions of stable countercurrent, and middle one or several staged are carried out under conditions of choking. Gas velocity in the first and last stages is maintained W1 = (0.01-0.3) x W0, where W0 = 3.13 x(Dxρlg)0,5 m/s), and gas velocity in middle stages is maintained within Wc = (0.3-0.8) x W0; D is pipe diameter, m; ρl and ρg are phase densities. The device of method embodiment includes three or more vertical working pipes interconnected successively by conical connections; lower unit of gas admission and liquid withdrawal; and upper unit of gas withdrawal and liquid admission. Diameter of the first (lower) pipe and diameter of last (upper) pipe are larger than that of middle pipe by a factor from 1 to 3. EFFECT: higher efficiency due to provided efficient treatment of gas with liquid in pipe under conditions of unstable counterflow with observed conditions of stable counterflow in device as a whole. 4 cl, 1 dwg
