FIELD: chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: method consists in that gas and liquid are supplied to lower part of vertical pipe, and the process is carried out in three and more successive stages. In so doing, the first and the last stages are effected under the conditions of stable ascending cocurrent flow, and middle one or several stages are carried out under the conditions of phase inversion (i.e. flooding). Preferably, gas velocities are determined by relationship offered by the invention description. Under specified conditions, efficiency of transfer process is increased. The apparatus for embodiment of the offered method includes three and more vertical working pipes, lower unit of introduction of gas and liquid, upper unit for withdrawal of gas and liquid. Working pipes are successively connected by conical adapters. Diameters of the first (lower) pipe and middle pipe are related as D1/Dc = 0.55-0.95. Preferable sizes are determined by ratios Dп/Dc = 0.7-0.9, where Dп is diameter of the last, i.e. upper pipe. Conical adapters have an angle at their vertex amounting to 10-20 deg.
