FIELD: wood processing industry; applicable in production of charcoal from large-sized pieces of wood and its wastes in the form of large-sized chips. SUBSTANCE: method includes drying and pyrolysis of wood and calcination of charcoal by supply to raw material of hot flue gases, withdrawal of formed vapor-gas mixture, charcoal cooling. Formed hot vapor-gases of pyrolysis are withdrawn from zone of active decomposition and directed to combustion chamber simultaneously with incoming air required for burning of vapor-gases. Flue gases formed in burning of vapor-gases are separated into two flows. One flow directly enters zone of wood pyrolysis onto incandescent charcoal, and the other flow is directed for mixing and formation of drying heat carrier. Plant for production of charcoal has vertical body separated by pinching into drying chamber, chamber of wood pyrolysis and charcoal calcination, devices for wood loading and charcoal unloading mounted in upper and lower parts of plant body, combustion chamber and the first gas contour in the form of gas conduit with gas blower for supply of vapor-gases from chamber of wood pyrolysis and charcoal calcination to combustion chamber. The latter is located in zone of wood pyrolysis and charcoal calcination. Plant is additionally provided with mixing chamber for formation of drying heat carrier, the second gas contour in the form of gas conduit with control valve for supply of flue gases from combustion chamber to lower part of wood drying zone, the third gas contour is in the form of gas conduit with control valve and gas blower for recirculation of flue gases going out of upper part of drying zone to its lower part. Device for unloading of charcoal is made in the form of worm gear drive and airtight device for unloading of charcoal into vessels. EFFECT: higher specific productivity of method and plant, improved charcoal quality, provision of ecology due to complete burning of vapor-gases in plant. 4 cl, 3 dwg
