FIELD: metallurgy, more particularly injection of desulfurizing mixture into liquid cast iron. SUBSTANCE: composition comprises calcium carbide powder having granule size of greater than 0.2 mm from 1% to 20% of magnesium powder having granule size of greater than 0.8 mm and from 5% to 15% of aluminium powder having granule size of greater than 0.8 mm and has other additives in powder form. Total amount of additives is more than 30%. Other additives include calcium oxide, calcium carbonate, agents comprising carbon, and/or agents that protect granule envelopes. Method makes it possible to prepare calcium carbide-based powder mixture comprising simultaneously magnesium powder and aluminium powder. In restricted concentration range, aluminium allows for considerable reduction of iron losses during desulfurization process. EFFECT: improved properties of the desulfurizing mixture. 3 cl, 1 tbl
