FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy, particularly, nickel pyrometallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method may be used in production of crude nickel powder by reduction of nickel protoxide contained in cinder of roasting of nickel concentrate produced in flotation separation of copper-nickel matte. The method includes reducing roasting of nickel cinder at temperature of 860-1000 C in tubular furnace with supply to above-layer space of furnace by separate flows of mixture of fuel oil an air with their ratio in mixture 1 kg of fuel oil per 8-10 ncu. m of air, and mixture of fuel oil and steam with their ratio in mixture of 1 t of fuel oil per 1.3-1.5 t of steam with production of nonfused nickel powder. Depending on composition of initial cinder with respect to content of difficult-to-reduce oxide compositions of iron and nickel, introduced additionally into mixture composition is solid reducing agent (coke or coke fines) in amount ensuring its ratio to cinder of (0.02-0.004).
