FIELD: nondestructive testing of quality of welds, test of quality of manufactured fuel elements for nuclear reactors. SUBSTANCE: increased authenticity of detection and identification of cavities and pores from wolfram inclusions and faulty fusion in welds of fuel elements are achieved thanks to emission of ultrasonic vibrations with various amplitudes of positive and negative half-cycles, reception of pulses from boundaries of media of different density and control of presence and type of flaws by pulses. Ultrasonic vibrations with frequency of 15-20 MHz and pulse duration equal to 1.5 period of vibration with carrier frequency are emitted, they are focused, presence and type of flaw are determined by relation of amplitudes and number of echoes of positive and negative half-cycles reflected from boundary of media of different density. Results of test are recorded and fixed in the form of digits for cavities and in the form of letter W for wolfram inclusions.
