FIELD: metallurgy, machine engineering, hardware and other production, possibly etching surface of carbonaceous heat treated steels. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of using etching solutions containing ferrum chloride and hydrochloric acid; immersing articles into such medium and applying ultrasonic oscillations to them in cavitation mode. Ultrasonic oscillations are applied in the form of pulses for the whole cycle of descaling with different intervals. First pulse is applied 3-5 minutes later after starting of article immersion to bath with above mentioned solution, second pulse is applied in the middle of cycle and third pulse is applied simultaneously with cycle termination. Time period of applying ultrasonic oscillations consists 2-3 minutes. EFFECT: effective descaling without damaging metal surface, enhanced manufacturability, possibility of simple automatization. 1 tbl
