FIELD: firewood chopping machines used in forestry, pulp-and-paper and wood-working industry. SUBSTANCE: chopper has frame equipped with pivotal attachment arranged at side of frame opposite to cutter. Opposite side of frame freely rests upon support so as to move upward in the process of chopping to value exceeding half the maximum diameter of wood block to be chopped. Mechanism for regulating spacing force between cutter and conveyor has overload release clutch for creating optimum force for pressing wood block to conveyor. To reduce the possibility of spontaneous lifting of frame to substantial value, inclination angle of lower cutter plate to horizontal plane exceeds that of upper cutter plate. Chopper may be used for splitting of long wood blocks. EFFECT: enhanced reliability in operation, increased service life of chain chopper, reduced power consumed by drive, wider operational capabilities. 3 cl, 3 dwg
