FIELD: building materials industry, more particularly manufacture of products used for heat and sound-insulation of residential, office and industrial buildings, and insulation of pipelines. SUBSTANCE: in order to prepare swollen material, method comprises mixing, wt parts liquid glass, 47-92; crushed foamed silicate, 5-18; finely divided mineral filler, 0.1-43; oleic acid, 0.02-0.04; saturated aqueous sugar solution, 0.4-1.0; and water, 0.6-2.0. The resulting mixture is granulated in extruder, granules are slightly dried in air for 2 hours or in drier at not higher than 100 C for 30 minutes, placed into perforated metallic mold and made to swell at 400-500 C for 30-80 minutes. EFFECT: lower consumption of gel formation agent and shorter duration of cycle for preparing swollen material with desired shape and sizes. 5 cl, 1 ex, 1 tbl
