FIELD: organic synthesis catalysts. SUBSTANCE: catalyst contains carrier and metal phase including partially intermetallic compound being at least partly in the form of Ru₃Sn₇, covering at least part of indicated carrier. Catalyst is prepared by depositing, onto carrier, ruthenium/tin complex, wherein oxidation state of ruthenium is equal to 4 and its coordination number to 6, said complex being depicted by general formula [Ru(SnX₃)_6-nX_n]^4-, wherein X denotes halogen atom (preferably chlorine or bromine), n is number between 0 and 2 (preferably 1), and cation A is hydrogen, after which complex is subjected to reduction.
