FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: described is method of preparing oleic acid which comprises hydrogenating fatty acids of tall oil on kieselguhr based Ni catalyst at temperatures from 140 to 160 C and pressure of 0.5-1.0 MPa for 0.5-1.0 h. Method makes it possible to synthesize oleic acid of high purity (weight fraction of oleic acid is at least 85-90 %) at conversion of original fatty acids of tall oil of 96 %.
