FIELD: engine manufacture; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: process organized for double-stage production of air-fuel mixture includes air supply to cylinder; its compression; admission of one part of fuel to combustion chamber and other part, to admission-valve zone on intake pipeline side for double-stage production of air-fuel mixture in the course of engine running at high load; ignition of air-fuel mixture due to compression followed by its combustion in cylinder; expansion and exhaust of waste combustion products; fuel feed control by responding to signal coming from control element coupled with engine. Double-stage production of air-fuel mixture is also conducted during starting periods and during high-load running periods this process is started after engine has taken 70-75% of full load and ceased as soon as it has started running at full load. Process is conducted at constant amount of fuel fed to combustion chamber at the same time varying fuel feed to intake pipeline according to dependence given in description of invention. Said process provides for reduced smoking of exhaust gases due to better completeness of combustion preferably at steadily high loads for small diesel engines with small-volume combustion chambers.
