FIELD: mechanical engineering; compression ignition engines. SUBSTANCE: proposed swirl chamber diesel engine has cylinder block, pistol, nozzle, cylinder head with intake and exhaust valves, liners, intake and exhaust channels, main combustion chamber, swirl combustion chamber communicating with main combustion chamber in above-piston space of cylinder through tangential channel, turnable dowel arranged in swirl chamber and displaced relative to swirl chamber axis. Ceramet hollow insert made in form of hollow sphere truncated at opposite sides is installed on turnable dowel with variable section clearance relative to swirl chamber walls. Lower portion of sphere pointed to tangential channel is provided with sharp edges and neck arranged in section in center relative to axis of swirl chamber and dowel. Upper portion of sphere pointed to nozzle is made with neck narrowed in section owing to variable thickness of insert walls and with axis of symmetry displaced relative to axes of insert, swirl chamber and dowel. Asymmetrical face is made between upper neck and plane of section. Glow element is placed in body of ceramet insert. EFFECT: reduced heat stresses in cylinder head, increased economy, improved starting characteristics. 2 dwg
