FIELD: instrumentation. SUBSTANCE: procedure is used to determine smoke content of exhaust gases of diesel engine under condition of free acceleration. With engine running at minimal stable rotational speed of idle run control of regulator of rotational speed of crankshaft is suddenly moved to position corresponding to maximum feed of fuel. Then with rotational speed of crankshaft of engine differing by not more than 1.0% of its rated value reading of operating smoke density indicator is recorded. Smoke density indicator is switched on after 0.8 s when mentioned-above control achieves position corresponding to maximum feed of fuel and is switched off at moment of achievement of specified rated rotational speed. Minimal reading of smoke density indicator is recorded. EFFECT: timely determination of value of smoke content of exhaust gases by which technical condition of engine can be evaluated reliably. 3 cl, 2 dwg
