FIELD: chemical and petrochemical industries. SUBSTANCE: method comprises carrying out ethylene polymerization process at pressure of 130-200 MPa, temperature of not higher than 270 C and initiating polymerization with organic peroxides fed in ethylene oligomer with average molecular weight of 170-340 and 15-20 double bonds per 1000 carbon atoms. Said ethylene oligomer is oligomer with average molecular weight of 170-340 isolated as fraction from low-molecular polyethylene from low and high-pressure recycles in polyethylene production, or oligomer prepared by thermal destruction of high-molecular polyethylene. Method makes it possible to stabilize operation of unit for preparing and feeding peroxide solutions into reactor to use ordinary (not fire hazard) equipment and to prepare polyethylene having characteristics such as transparency of 58-71% and content of extractable agents of 0.25-0.27 wt % in polyethylene for polyethylene prepared in tubular reactor and 0.41-0.44 wt % for polyethylene prepared in autoclave reactor.
