FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to synthesis of m-haloidphenols of the general formula: where X is Br, Cl used in production of dyes, medicinal agents, phenolformaldehyde resins. Method is performed by diazotization of m-aminophenol as meta-derivative of aniline with sodium nitrite. Diazotization is carried out in mixture of hydrohalic acid and acetone. Acetone is taken in the amount 500-1000 vol. p. per 1 mole of m-aminophenol. Obtained diazonium salt is decomposed in the presence of monovalent copper halide at 30-35 C.
